The games section has been very quiet for a while as a few of you have mentioned, we have been rushed off our feet.  If there are any games you think we ought to review let us know and we'll se what we can do!  Click here  For now we have a review of Tiberian Sun!

Title: Tiberian Sun

Developer: Westwood

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Well then. Here's Tiberian Sun. When this copy came into my hands for review, I wondered what could have been done to improve the game that took the charts by storm in 1995 as the game that offered something totally new and practically invented the RTS genre.

Well, followers of the genre will not be disappointed! The game has been enhanced in every way over the original. A lot of the things that people moan about in the old C&C was lack of things like unit queuing and so on. All of this has been added.

The units in the game are perfectly balanced. I have yet to find a unit that doesn't have a weakness, whether it be flame, discs or the MSA. Also, none of the units apart from infantry are the same on each side. This is important because it means that every unit has an equal or weakness that has to be addressed before victory can be addressed. It seems that finally Westwood have eliminated the tank rush and made more of the strategic importance. Terrain now plays a very important part of the thinking process with bridges, ice and forests to be blown up, this adds a new element and requires that your defenses be stepped up and your thinking be pin sharp.

Although there are only twelve 39(!) tasks pre side missions per side, the sub tasks that accompany the missions make for interesting play and over. Should you try and take the train station to get into the NOD base or should I go in guns akimbo and hope for the best. It also makes your tactical decisions into really hard choices. The solution to the one above for example is to go in guns akimbo as the train track is covered with lasers and the sort of notice when the tarin is yellow instead of red.

To sum it up then, Tiberian Sun is a worthy addition to the Command and Conquer series. It doesn't have any major improvements (apart from the waypoint system which is brilliant!) but is still extremely addictive and will grab you by the throat until you finish it from both sides.
